   Introduction of author

                                              The story ‘’the artist’’ it has been written by Shiga Naoya. He was the greatest short story writer and poet twentieth century. He wrote very sensitively about his people and their culture.

                                   In the present short story. The author describes the world talented Japanese boy ”seibei’’he was a twelve year old boy  found of collecting gourds and lived in harbor town. He always wandered in the town for looking gourds. One day he was walking in the sea beach. He saw an old man. He thinks that that man was gourds but he was not gourds.                                                                                      

                                       Again Seibei purchased new gourds to an old women. One day he took it along with to school and he was polishing his small gourds in the ethics class under the desk. He was caught by the teacher and seized the gourds. He gave to it the porter. The story came to the parents of the Seibei. Hearing all matter his mother was shocked and his father began sound beating. He smashed all gourds piece. By piece and threw it. The porter sold gourds 50 yen but the gourds were sold 600 yen in the big market by the dealer. The teacher and father did not understand. The  hobbies of seibei
